Lagos Life Clones and Similar Games: What's Real and What's a Copy
Inside Ilorin, Hometown, Naija Life and the city clones: who makes each Lagos Life-style game, how it differs, and how to tell a copy from the original.
When a browser game pulls millions of players in a week, copies follow within days — and this wave moved faster than most. Between the launch on 1 October and mid-October 2026, a whole family of Lagos-style life simulators appeared: city clones, a 36-state rival, mobile apps that borrowed the name outright. This page maps the family: who makes each game, what it changes, and how to think about it as a player. For the original’s own systems, what is Lagos Life is the starting point.
Why the clones appeared
The format travels well: a browser game needs no download, the life-sim loop is familiar to anyone who has touched The Sims, and the setting — hustling, renting, dodging traps in a Nigerian city — barely existed in games before. That combination made the original the fastest-spreading Nigerian browser game on record, and it also made the format look easy to lift. Within two weeks, Reddit threads were counting the copies, discussion threads on r/Nigeria were already mocking the wave as AI-made slop, and at least one poster was openly recruiting a team to build their own version for mobile.
The clone family, at a glance
| Game | What it is | Status | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside Ilorin | The format applied to Ilorin, Kwara State | Discussed on r/Nigeria from early October | Observed via community threads |
| City clones (Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano) | Same format, different city label | Circulating on social media since ~10 October | Reported; not independently verified |
| Naija Life: Lagos Simulator | Mobile app by GreatCallie International; first listed as “Lagos Life: Naija Life Sim” | On Google Play, renamed with a not-affiliated disclaimer | Confirmed via the store listing |
| Hometown | Independent 36-state economy sim at hometownng.com | Developer-promoted on Nairaland, 14 October | Confirmed via developer’s own post |
| Lagos Danfo | Bus-themed mini-game, reportedly 90,000 players in five days | Circulating on X; relationship to the official developer unclear | Reported; unconfirmed |
| Lagos Run | Older danfo-runner at isakaba.com by Opeyemi Adeniran | Predates the wave; cited as part of the same lane | Confirmed via the developer’s site |
Naija Life: the app that borrowed the name
The clearest case of name-riding is on Google Play. The listing now called “Naija Life: Lagos Simulator” launched under the name “Lagos Life: Naija Life Sim” — close enough that social media posts repeatedly confused it with an official mobile version. There is no official mobile version. The listing now carries a disclaimer that it is not affiliated with any other app or website, and its developer, GreatCallie International, publishes other city simulators in the same mould. If you installed it believing it was the browser game, your account there has no connection to your real one — the two games share nothing. The scams guide covers the full checklist for spotting this pattern.
Hometown: the 36-state rival
Hometown is the most ambitious game in the family. Its developer introduced it on Nairaland on 14 October 2026 as a free life game covering all 36 states plus Abuja, where players compete to make their state the economic centre. The post describes weekly governor elections with the winner’s law paying up to ₦47 million a week, and weekly battle mechanics between states. Those numbers come from the developer’s own promotion, not from our testing — but the game is a real, distinct product, not a reskin of anyone else’s client.
For players, the interesting question is what a copy like this signals: the original’s weekly election loop, which our politics guide tracks for the real game, is now a genre feature rather than a novelty.
Inside Ilorin and the city clones
Inside Ilorin applies the format to Kwara State’s capital, and it circulated on r/Nigeria in the launch week alongside jokes about the clone economy it joined. Similar city-branded versions for Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano have appeared in social media summaries since around 10 October. We have not verified those first-hand — new ones appear faster than anyone can catalogue them, which is itself the point: the format is now a template anyone can instantiate for their own city.
Lagos Danfo and Lagos Run: the bus-game lane
Two bus-themed games circle the same audience. Lagos Run, at isakaba.com, predates the wave — a danfo runner by developer Opeyemi Adeniran that older Nigerian browser-game fans already knew. Lagos Danfo is newer and bigger: social media trending pages credited it with around 90,000 players in five days in early October. Whether Lagos Danfo belongs to the original developer’s family or is another independent take is not confirmed; until the official accounts claim it, we treat it as separate.
How to judge a lookalike in 30 seconds
- Who runs it? The original’s world lives at lagoslife.app and nowhere else. A different domain is a different game with your data.
- Where does your account go? On the original, one account signs in at the official site only. If a clone asks you to register, you are creating a profile in someone else’s database.
- What is being promised? Real-money returns, exclusive Naira bonuses for early sign-ups, or “the official mobile version” are all impossible claims — see the scams guide.
- Is it fun anyway? Some of these games are sincere projects by Nigerian developers riding the moment. Trying one is fine — just know which one you are in, and never reuse the password from your real account.
The original keeps moving too: weekly laws, new venues and timed events land continuously, and the update tracker logs every dated change. Whatever the clones borrow, they borrow from a game that is still shipping.
