A free browser game about surviving Lagos — jobs, rent, danfo rides and weekly elections — appeared on 1 October 2026 and had 8.5 million players within ten days. If you heard about it on TikTok or from a friend and want to know what it actually is, this page is the straight answer. New player? Follow up with the first-week walkthrough.

What is Lagos Life?

Lagos Life is a life-simulation game set in a shared, multiplayer online version of Lagos, Nigeria — the same city for everyone, with other players walking the same streets, chatting in the same venues and voting in the same elections. You create one character, manage six survival needs (hunger, energy, fun, social, hygiene, bladder), work shifts for in-game Naira, pay weekly rent, train nine skills and climb one of 33 career tracks across three cities. The long game sits in the Goals panel: a Lifetime Dream — the default, “Oga at the Top”, asks you to reach the top level of any career — funded day to day by hustle missions, a Lagos Rep ladder and a perk shop paid in wish points. The full career and salary picture is in all jobs and salaries.

It is made by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen (known as Eliy) — the full origin story, including the reported $1 billion valuation, is in who made Lagos Life.

Where do I play it — and is it free?

The only official addresses are lagoslife.app and the developer’s mirror at lagoslife.eliysites.com. The game is free; optional purchases only buy in-game Naira. Be careful with lookalike sites — the game’s popularity has produced clones and fake “download” pages, and the official stats page is a quick way to confirm you are on the real thing.

Does Lagos Life pay real money?

No — and this is the single most common question new players ask. The Naira in Lagos Life is fictional, the terms state it cannot be cashed out, and buying it is a purchase, not an investment. Player wealth in the game is for the game: rent, furniture, cars, events. Our money guide covers every legitimate way to earn in-game, and every limit on it.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Lagos Life runs in any modern browser as a PWA — nothing to install on desktop. On phones you can play in the browser or add it to your home screen for a full-screen, app-like experience; there is no official app in Google Play or the App Store, and your progress follows your account across devices either way.

Is Lagos Life a Roblox game?

No. It is an independent browser game. There is no Roblox version, no official app in any app store, and no connection to The Sims beyond the genre. Comparing the two is fair, though — see how the games differ in our locations guide for what Lagos Life’s shared city actually feels like.

Why did Lagos Life go viral so fast?

Three ingredients, in ten days: it is free with no download, it is set in a city Nigerian players instantly recognise (danfo buses, NEPA power cuts, Balogun haggling), and everyone shares one city — so friends join friends, houses host parties, and elections get half a million real votes. The live scale numbers live on the official stats page and in our update tracker.

I can’t log in — what do I do?

Login trouble almost always comes down to the address first: accounts only exist on the official domain, so a clone site will never accept your password. On the real site, the usual fixes are a hard refresh or another browser (stale cache is the common culprit), and checking @LagosLifeApp for outage reports after a big update — the game ships changes near-daily. For anything account-related (payments, deletions), use the official support channel listed on the game’s site rather than third-party “helpers”.

FAQ

Does Lagos Life pay real money?
No. The in-game currency (Naira) has no real-world value and cannot be withdrawn — the game's own terms say so. Buying Naira is a purchase, not an investment, and anyone promising withdrawal returns is running a scam on a currency that does not exist outside the game.
Is Lagos Life free to play?
Yes. Lagos Life is free to play in your browser at lagoslife.app. Optional in-game purchases exist for Naira top-ups, but no purchase is needed to work, rent a home or join elections.
Is Lagos Life a Roblox game?
No. Lagos Life is an independent browser game (a PWA) by developer Shalom Rayhamen. It has nothing to do with Roblox, and there is no Roblox version — anyone hosting one is not the real game.
Do I need to download anything to play?
No. The game runs directly in any modern browser at lagoslife.app, and there is no official app on Google Play or the App Store — listings using the name are clones. On phones, add the site to your Home Screen for an app-like experience with synced progress.
How old do I have to be to play?
The official terms require players to be 18 or older, and each person may hold exactly one account.
