Games Like Lagos Life: 7 Alternatives Worth Playing (October 2026)

Seven games like Lagos Life compared — Hometown, The Sims 4, BitLife, Lagos Run and the city clones — with platform, price and how each one differs.

10/16/2026 October 2026 Last updated: 10/16/2026 8 min read

Lagos Life is barely two weeks old and already the reference point for a whole lane of games: life simulators built around Nigerian cities, Naira salaries and the weekly rent grind. If you are looking for something that scratches the same itch — or you want to know what else is out there before committing your evenings — this page compares the seven alternatives worth your time, from the closest match to the deepest game in the genre. New here? What Lagos Life is covers the original first.

The short list

  • Closest match: Hometown — the same format at the scale of all 36 Nigerian states, free in the browser.
  • Most depth: The Sims 4 — a decade of content, free to start, but a download and a single-player world.
  • Quickest sessions: BitLife — an entire life in text form, on your phone, in minutes a day.
  • Same streets, different game: Lagos Danfo and Lagos Run — two bus-themed games for when you want Lagos without the rent due date.
  • Handle with care: Naija Life: Lagos Simulator and the city clones — separate games, often mistaken for the original.

How we picked these seven

Three filters. First, the game had to share the core loop — a life you steer through jobs, money and housing. Second, it had to be playable right now, not a waitlist or a demo. Third, we labelled everything we have not verified first-hand: several of these games are promoted through their developers’ own posts, and we say so rather than guessing. For the difference between an alternative and a lookalike pretending to be the original, the clones guide is the companion page.

The seven at a glance

Game Platform Cost How it differs from the original
Hometown Browser Free 36 states + Abuja, weekly elections, state battles
The Sims 4 PC, Mac, PS5/4, Xbox Free base game; paid expansions Single-player sandbox, deep build mode, offline
BitLife iOS, Android Free with ads; optional paid tier Text-based, one randomised life at a time
Lagos Danfo Browser Free Bus routes and passengers instead of jobs and rent
Lagos Run Browser Free Older danfo endless-runner, Arcade simplicity
Naija Life: Lagos Simulator Android app Free Mobile-only city sim, unrelated to the original
City clones (Ilorin, Abuja, PH, Kano) Browser Free Same format re-skinned for one city

Hometown — the closest match

If the question is “what feels most like playing the original”, the answer is Hometown at hometownng.com. Its developer introduced it on Nairaland on 14 October 2026 as a free life game covering all 36 states plus Abuja, where players compete to make their own state the country’s economic centre. The weekly rhythm is familiar: governor elections every week — with the winner’s law reportedly paying up to ₦47 million, a figure from the developer’s promotion, not our testing — and battle mechanics between states layered on top of the jobs-and-housing loop. It is an independent product with no connection to Vatar Inc, and the most active game in this family right now.

What you gain is scale; what you give up is the shared-city feel of one Lagos everyone occupies together. The original’s weekly law cycle, which our elections guide tracks for real, is the feature Hometown borrowed most visibly.

The Sims 4 — the genre’s deep end

The obvious giant. Electronic Arts’ flagship life sim has a decade-plus of content behind it, and since October 2022 the base game is free to download on PC, Mac and consoles. Where the browser game gives you a character with a job and a landlord, The Sims 4 gives you Create-a-Sim, a full build mode, needs management across a whole household, and generations of a family if you stay long enough. It is single-player and plays offline — nobody else’s shop is open in your world, because there is no one else.

The trade is money and machine. The base game is free, but the well-known expansions that give the game its range are paid, and the client wants a laptop or console rather than a phone browser. For the full head-to-head — platform, price, world and depth — see Lagos Life vs The Sims.

BitLife — a whole life in text

BitLife, by Candywriter, has been the phone’s answer to the life sim for years: you are born with randomised stats, make one choice per screen, and ride the consequences from school through careers, relationships and property until the obituary. There is no city to walk and nothing like a live economy, but as a five-minute session it is unmatched — and its job interviews, landlords and questionable financial decisions translate one-to-one to the Naira grind players love. Free with ads; a one-time paid tier removes them.

Lagos Danfo — the quick-session bus game

The surprise hit orbiting the same audience: a bus-themed mini-game that social media trending pages credited with around 90,000 players in five days in early October. You work danfo routes — pick up passengers, drive the economics of Lagos public transport — instead of working shifts for a salary. Its relationship to the original’s developer is not confirmed; until the official accounts claim it, we treat it as a separate game that simply shares the streets.

Lagos Run — the older runner

Lagos Run, at isakaba.com, predates the whole wave: a danfo runner by developer Opeyemi Adeniran that Nigerian browser-game fans already knew before October. It is an arcade score-chaser rather than a life sim — dodge traffic, keep the bus alive — and it is the game most often cited as part of the same lane. Good for a ten-minute burst, not a career ladder.

Naija Life: Lagos Simulator — the app that is not the original

The one to handle with the most care, purely because of the naming. It launched on Google Play as “Lagos Life: Naija Life Sim” — close enough that social media repeatedly mistook it for an official mobile version, which does not exist. It has since been renamed and carries a not-affiliated disclaimer; the developer, GreatCallie International, publishes other city simulators in the same mould. It is a real game, not a virus — but your account there shares nothing with your real one, and if a listing or ad promised you “the official mobile game”, that was the scam pattern. The scams guide has the full checklist.

Inside Ilorin and the city clones

The same format stamped onto other cities: Inside Ilorin for Kwara State’s capital, plus reported versions for Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano circulating since around 10 October. We have not verified these first-hand — they appear faster than anyone can catalogue them, which is the point: the format is now a template any developer can instantiate. Quality and safety vary; judge each one with the 30-second checklist in the clones guide, and never reuse a password from an account you care about.

The original’s map of Lagos — the shared city none of the alternatives quite recreate

Which one should you try

  • You love the weekly election loop → Hometown, then compare what each game’s law cycle does differently.
  • You want more to build and manage → The Sims 4; start with the free base game before spending on expansions.
  • You play in stolen five-minute windows → BitLife.
  • You just like Lagos → Lagos Danfo for routes, Lagos Run for score-chasing.
  • You were looking for the official mobile app → there isn’t one; everything in a store with a similar name is a different game.

What the original still does best

None of the alternatives replicate the shared economy: one Lagos where every other player is also hustling, where a weekly law can move every salary, and where 6,000+ people chase the same daily gem at the same time. That is the part worth remembering while you sample the family — and if you split your time, the update tracker keeps you current on what the original shipped while you were away.

FAQ

What is the most similar game to Lagos Life?
Hometown (hometownng.com) is the closest: a free browser life sim set in Nigeria, covering all 36 states plus Abuja, with weekly governor elections. The format is the same; the scale and the setting are broader. It is an independent game by a different developer.
Is there an official mobile app for Lagos Life?
No. As of mid-October 2026 the game runs only in your browser at lagoslife.app. Store listings such as Naija Life: Lagos Simulator are separate games by different developers — one of them first appeared under the name Lagos Life itself before being renamed.
Are the Lagos Life clone games safe to try?
They are separate products with their own servers and their own rules. Trying one is not dangerous by itself, but never reuse the password from your real account, never pay either of them, and treat any promise of real-money returns as a scam.
Is The Sims similar to Lagos Life?
They share the life-sim bones — needs, careers, homes, relationships — but The Sims 4 is a single-player sandbox you download, while Lagos Life is a free browser game in a shared online economy where every player works, rents and votes in the same city. See our full Lagos Life vs The Sims comparison.
