New Tool: The Lagos Life Data Cost Calculator

Lagos Life traffic, measured — now a calculator: set your hours and play style, see the cheapest covering MTN, Airtel, Glo or 9mobile bundle.

Every Lagos Life player on mobile data asks the same two questions in their first week: how much data does this game even use? and which bundle should I buy for it? We answered the first one by measuring the game ourselves — the short version is about 0.4 MB to get in and 2–20 MB per hour after that, depending on how much you use the all-player chat (the full method is in our data usage guide). The second question had no honest answer anywhere, so we built one: the Data Cost Calculator is live now in our tools section.

The problem it solves

Nigerian data is bought by the gigabyte, and every network sells a dozen confusingly similar bundles: daily packs, weekly packs, monthly packs, Binge packs, Always-On tiers, social add-ons. A ₦350 daily bundle feels cheap until you buy it thirty times. A ₦16,000 mega monthly bundle feels safe until a ₦6,400 pattern of weekly refills would have carried the same play. Nobody can do that math in their head at the kiosk — and the numbers change every time carriers adjust tariffs.

The calculator does it in one screen, using the game’s actual traffic footprint instead of a guess.

How it works

Two inputs, one table:

  • Hours per day — a slider from 30 minutes to 6 hours.
  • Play style — Solo (actions only), Mixed (a normal session with some chat), or Chat-heavy (the all-player chat open non-stop). These map to our measured 2, 8 and 20 MB per hour.

Out comes your monthly need, and for MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile (T2) the cheapest bundle on each network that actually covers that need — with the 30-day cost of buying it on repeat, the price per gigabyte, and a plain status line. If no listed tier covers an extreme usage pattern, the tool says so and shows the shortfall instead of pretending.

Three players, three answers

Real outputs from launch day, using prices checked on 17 October 2026:

Player Monthly need Cheapest covering pick 30-day cost
1 h/day, solo 60 MB Glo 2.6GB monthly ₦1,000
2 h/day, mixed 480 MB Glo 2.6GB monthly ₦1,000
4 h/day, chat-heavy 2.4 GB Glo 2.6GB monthly ₦1,000

The launch-week headline: Glo’s ₦1,000 monthly bundle covers every player profile up to 4 hours of chat-heavy play a day — on price per gigabyte nothing else comes close at the light end. MTN and Airtel answer at bigger volumes (their 10GB+ tiers reach roughly ₦300–₦400 per GB), and at extreme usage something surprising happens: weekly tiers bought on repeat can beat the big monthly bundles — a pattern the calculator surfaces automatically. Run your own numbers instead of trusting ours: open the Data Cost Calculator.

How the numbers are built

The traffic side is our own measurement of lagoslife.app — first load weighed file by file, API replies clocked in bytes. The pricing side is a checked catalogue, not a scraped rumour: MTN and Airtel tiers come from the carriers’ own plan pages, Glo’s from their official listing, 9mobile’s from active reseller pricing (the network is now branded T2). Bonuses — YouTube-night allowances, social packs, free minutes — are deliberately never counted, because Lagos Life traffic is none of those categories. Every figure carries its checking date; tariffs drift, and the calculator would rather be stale-and-honest than confidently wrong.

Try it

If you already know your real per-hour cost from the two-minute self-check in the data usage guide, the calculator turns that knowledge into a purchase decision in about ten seconds. And if you are still setting the game up, pair it with how to download and play — install it as an app, do the first load on Wi-Fi, and your bundle goes even further.

FAQ

What does the Data Cost Calculator do?
You set how many hours a day you play and whether you play solo or chat-heavy. The calculator estimates your monthly data need from our measured Lagos Life traffic model, then compares current bundle prices from all four Nigerian networks and shows the cheapest tier on each that covers your usage, with its 30-day cost and ₦ per GB.
Why does the calculator ignore bonus data like YouTube-night allowances?
Because bonuses only help if your usage matches them, and Lagos Life traffic is none of those categories. Counting primary allowances only keeps the recommendation honest for actual gameplay — the same discipline we apply to game data across this wiki.
How current are the bundle prices?
Prices were checked against carrier pages on 17 October 2026. Nigerian tariffs change often, so the tool shows the checking date and advises confirming on *312# or in your carrier app before you buy. If a price differs, the carrier is right.
Can the calculator tell me which network is cheapest overall?
For light and medium players, Glo's monthly tiers usually win; heavier users should compare MTN and Airtel big monthly tiers and even weekly tiers bought on repeat — the calculator ranks all four networks by real 30-day cost for your exact hours, and the winner genuinely changes with usage.
